Late at night in a small room at the bottom of the hill. A soggy blur of powders and pills, acoustic guitar resin, pockets emptied on the old snare drum. Hot nights, cold nights, lonely, together. Harsh world of reality out that door but inside we still got The Clean, The Clash, The Misfits, The Ramones, Television Personalities, Magnetic Fields, Tom Petty, The Kinks, The Beatles, Elliott Smith, The Velvet Underground, Bruce Springsteen, Ween, Cake, MF Doom, Slayer, The Bee Gees. 24 hour lockout practice space recording studio, sometimes friends watch. Some friends are dead and some are still right here but The Memories linger.

Recorded over the course of a year and a half at their shared practice space, ‘Late’ is The Mems’ at their most mature, most vulnerable, most solid. Not since 2020’s ‘Pickles & Pies’ has the band recorded an entire album in one space, with 2022’s ‘Watching Movies’ being more of a diary dump of bedroom songs, and 2023’s ‘Single Player Game’ being a lost & found set of recordings from 2017. This is an album made with love to the listeners.

Dedicated to the long night. 20 songs about the nights and days. Still a little sad, still a little silly, always a bit of both. Late.
